In 2014, Sara Weinreb took a look at her shopping habits and realized they didn’t align with her values of environmental and social justice. So she made a commitment to only buy ethically-made clothing — and even started her own retail company. But while she was building the brand, she realized she preferred writing and educating about sustainable living, so she pivoted to penning mindful pieces and helping other ethical companies succeed.

“I believe strongly that our actions and behaviors represent the world we want to live in, so it’s important to me as a consumer, writer, and business owner to practice, partake in, and represent ethics and sustainability in business,” she said.

In addition to writing about sustainable topics for places like Forbes, mindbodygreen and StartupFashion, Weinreb serves as a facilitator, with a wealth of knowledge on how to navigate brand development. Having worked with over 300 early-stage entrepreneurs, she does everything from coordinating workshops, to copywriting, to strategizing toward mission-driven success.

She also mans her own media platforms, the first being her Medium Well podcast, which meditates on uncertainty, transition and finding purpose. Having transitioned from her ethical fashion business to writing and consulting, Weinreb serves as a personification of the podcast’s theme, and interviews coaches, spiritual leaders and others with influential points of view on the matter.

She also authors a newsletter called The M List, which contains one daily product, recipe, or life hack for living a more mindful, healthy and stress-free life. As someone who has learned over time how to turn their values into practices, Weinreb encourages those looking to live more mindfully to take inventory of their habits and evaluate the brands they support.

“Take one step at a time— change doesn’t happen over night,” she explained. “I also think mindful living is about emotional and mental decluttering, so evaluate what is bringing you joy and energy and what is draining you— whether those are people, your job, the pile of papers in the corner, your hobbies, or anything else.”

This year, she hopes to publish even more mindful advice on The M List as well as grow Medium Well with new, exciting guests.

“My goal on this planet is to help people be kinder and more connected to themselves, each other, and the planet, so I hope both of these endeavors will deepen that work in 2019 and beyond,” she said.
