This family-run hosiery brand is honoring its long-held values while utilizing eco-friendly practices and materials.
Founded in 1992 by James Chang, Sheerly Touch-Ya specializes in new and upcycled dead-stock hosiery styles.
Their products range from classic tights to embellished backseam pantyhose and sultry body stockings. They have been featured alongside various fashion brands and on bellwethers around the world.
Chang’s daughter Serena began working for her family’s business in 2021 with the goal of modernizing it while upholding its original ethos. She also runs a sculpture fabrication studio called Shisanwu LLC which focuses on both manual and digital technologies.
“As an artist and fabricator, my approach to Sheerly Touch-Ya comes from a place of fostering and collaborating with the creative community,” she said. “Sheerly Touch-Ya used to be called Serena, named after me, so I've historically had a close connection with the brand.”
A majority of the brand’s deadstock materials come from its extensive inventory of styles — many of which utilize processes that aren’t widely available in hosiery production. And while Serena is working to contemporize the company, she is also mindful about honoring its original aesthetics.
“It was important for me to keep all the original packaging and imagery as they show an authentic approach to design and a nod to the history of the brand,” she explained.
In the new year, Sheerly Touch-Ya will be expanding its offerings with even more accessories made from deadstock materials. More about the brand can be found here.
